"60 Year" Edition James is a cancelled variant of James which would have commemerated the 60th anniversary of The Railway Series. It depicts James in his original black livery as seen in The Railway Series story Thomas and the Breakdown Train. It was cancelled in favor of the 60th Anniversary Henry, which was more colorful and could potentially sell more.

- Only three copies of "60 Year" Edition James are known to exist.
- "60 Year" Edition James erroneously has a gold dome and the number five.
- Despite not being produced, the idea was revisited in 2015 with Introducing James being made by Fisher-Price for the 70th anniversary of The Railway Series.
