- Winston was originally planned to be released in 2012, but was delayed due to Mattel buying the Thomas Wooden Railway range.
- Winston is the fifth rail vehicle to not have a front magnet with the first four being the Sodor Railway Repair, Winter Wonderland Thomas, Hank, and Snow Covered Percy, the sixth being Marion, and the seventh being Dustin.
- The prototype 2013 Winston features a thicker face, a bigger and brown seat, and a black windshield.
- The second prototype 2013 Winston features a thinner face, small cream seat, and a light grey windshield, akin to the final product.
