- The prototype 2017 Hugo features black wheels.
- Hugo has magnets in order to be compatible with the rest of the line, even though he cannot couple up to anything in the television series.
- The 2017 Hugo features eight wheels instead of four because his length in the television series causes the large vehicle chassis with two bogies to be used.
- Hugo was the final new character introduced in the original Wooden Railway range before it became discontinued and was replaced with the Wood range.
- He is also the final vehicle with eight wheels.
- Hugo is the only Wood vehicle not to have a 2019 redesign.
